Production Portfolio - Bio

Hi, my name is Danelene (Dani). I have worked as an Independent Producer for over 15 years, based out of Toronto, Canada. Working as a filmmaker, producer, director, field director and/or showrunner - our teams have created passionate, thought provoking & award winning film/TV. A large part of my work as a producer has been sharing the stories of communities, diversity in culture, ability or education through documentary. I also continue to work simultaneously (on both sides of the camera) in my first love of storytelling - as an actor.

Recent credits on the production side in '24 include TORONTO'S WANDERERS short doc, THROUGH THE WONDERBOX short doc & WEAVING JOURNEYS the series with AWO. Exhibited @ the Textile Museum of Canada - WJ is a series of 6 short films. Women from Afghanistan & India, share their immigration/refugee stories through personal objects @ the Textile Museum of Canada. Journeys woven together show how culture, resilience & beauty can overcome hardship & war. 'Shivani' now on CBCGem.

Selected doc series credits - GOING MAORI/DOWNUNDER (AUS|NZ-PM)'24, the youth career series BACK TO OUR FUTURE (3 x 1/2hr PD), EMPLOYABLE ME2 (3 x 1hr-AP-featuring jobseekers that prove that having a physical disability or neurological condition doesn't make them unemployable) Employable Me garnered the Best Factual Series at Banff World Media Fest in 2019, SEEDS (3 x 1/2hr PD), OMG! (18 x 1/2hr -ancient world religions PD) & SCIENCE OF SIN (4 x 1hr -a provocative exploration of the tension between our evolutionary/biological compulsions to sin & societal norms).  Science of Sin was the only Canadian Documentary series nominated for Best Science and Technology Series at The Banff World Media Fest .

On the prod side, I work with Saoirse Films,  recently with ICE RIVER FILMS/PAUL KEMP PRODUCTIONS. We are currently developing Peacekids & HeART Official Intelligence documentaries @ Saoirse Films. I am lucky to have worked in collaboration with broadcasters CBC, BRAVO, PBS, APTN, MAORI TV, NITV, VISION TV, DISCOVERY, ICHANNEL & TVO - in association with several production companies including Paul Kemp Productions, Stornoway Productions, Breakout & THA. Our documentary work with students & youth TV programs in diversity of culture & education realms was highly recognized & distributed by several universities, school boards & libraries throughout CAN/US. Selected fests - YORKTON, BANFF WORLD MEDIA FEST (Best Science & Technology + Factual), CSA, Cannes SFC, National Screen Institute, Montreal World Film Fest, NFB & Edmonton International Fest, GI FF and TIFF.

I studied Film/TV at George Brown in TO, BPsych + Economics at James Cook Uni in Aus (2ndYr) & Drama|Acting @ renowned studios (Master Class-Pro Actors Lab, LB, CTAS in CA) & Aus (Hnrs).
